It’s been a long time coming. I’ve needed one place online to gather all the things I create, and this is it.
My work falls into three streams: books, music, and podcasting. These are the ways I’ve tried to extend God’s call on my life into the world. The things I make don’t all look the same. I’ve updated the writings of Jonathan Edwards, the great seventeenth-century preacher and theologian. But I’ve also created music with AI technology. And on my podcast, Gavin and I try to make people laugh with a weekly Top 7 list.
So why the diversity? Two reasons. First, it’s simply who I am. Sometimes I want to sit quietly and meditate on words. Other times I want to sing, shout, and dance. My content reflects that range. Second, I believe God calls us to experience a wide spectrum of things—to think deeply, to feel deeply, to rejoice in Christ, to grieve over sin, to laugh at life’s ironies, to burn with righteous anger at injustice. All of that deserves expression.
Someone may ask why I built a website in my own name. Isn’t that arrogant? Honestly, yes. There’s pride in me. I enjoy the things I’ve created and I think others will too. Sin always mingles with my motives, even as I long to glorify God with every word, song, and laugh. That pride needs to be confessed and mortified.
But I also know my motives aren’t only selfish. I want to create things that help people for God’s glory. A song like Thoughts at My Husband’s Funeral could walk with someone in grief and point them to Christ. A book, a melody, or even a podcast laugh can proclaim God’s goodness and grace. That’s my aim.
So why call it JasonDollar.com? The simple answer is that I couldn’t think of anything better. I’ve tried “clever” names before, like Glory Focus, but they only confused things. At the end of the day, I’m an independent content creator. My books are self-published. My music isn’t from a studio. Our podcast, Rock Mountain Live, is basically me producing, editing, uploading, and hosting with a few great friends joining in. It’s not that I don’t want a team; it’s just that I create best when I can focus on the work itself. I’m not a loner, but I do work best alone.
So it seemed most accurate to use my name. Not to promote myself, but because I’m the one who made this—and I have to call it something. My hope is that in the end, my name will serve to lift up the name of Jesus.
At any rate, welcome. The podcast drops weekly, more music is coming, and I’ve got some big book ideas simmering. I also plan to add blog posts along the way.
